This week, Ms. Lee and our team had a discussion about our updates. Since I wasn't feeling well, I completed this week's work asynchronously. I called them for any crucial meetings and completed the majority of the work from home.
I think it was reasonable to drop some of the gamification ideas. The implementation of the tutorials was too challenging because we would have to do it for every app that was made, making them impractical. Ms. Lee changed our attention to what we can accomplish right now with Claire's implementation of video calling. To make it better, we could sort of perform a skit.
Everyone in our group was focusing on what to implement, I decided to gave my idea of implementing the Chat-Room Idea to Jeremy and also what he can improve on it. Further on I decided to re-work on some of the design that weren't displayed properly.
There was alot of progress for this week, consisting of me touching up alot of stuff such as the fixing of lists, styling for the forums and events page, the login as well.
I consistenly asked if there were some things I could do from the back-end, which I also did to help to filter out for the forum part.
Based on the previous design, I decided to do another rework to the Events page, so I asked Claire if she could help me to place the recent events at the top. Then I placed the filtering such as View All, Banking, etc under Threads as it looks simpler to press.
This is How the Events Page would look like after you view them.
I decided to try combining a straightforward border style with the nes-font by the nes styling. The main thread and comments are easier to read, and I made it scrollable in case there are a lot of texts, so it seems to be alright.
Here are a few tweaks I made to the staff login, sign-up, and login pages.
Given the problems, this week was most likely the most stressful. I attempted to push five hours prior to the deadline, but it ended up deleting a portion of our work. I was so frustrated that I searched for tutorials on how to fix the problem again. so I could fix it right away. My teammates advised me to relax and not worry about it. I did manage to finish what I started before turning in the work, but I did manage to revert back—probably after a few hours.
The features that Claire, Vishwa, and Jeremy wanted to highlight were the only ones included in the final video recording of our demo that our team produced. Overall, I think we did well, though we were concerned on the day of the presentation. On the day of the presentation, we made the decision to meet early, at 11 a.m.
Reflection
While my passion lies in back-end development, I chose to focus on design using CSS and JS to strengthen my skills and contribute to the project's user experience and visual appeal. The ability to create a usable and dynamic interface felt impactful and directly contributed to the project's value. The team's collaboration was crucial, and I enjoyed supporting teammates whenever possible.
However, I acknowledge that my contributions to the back-end were minimal due to focusing on another project with the same teammates during the same period. To compensate, Vishwa volunteered to handle the PFD, which ultimately accelerated our progress and provided additional time for finishing touches.
