Week 3 - A Tangent

Week 3 was mostly online due to unforeseen circumstances, but we still pitched our ideas to Mr Awlvyn for feedback! We gave him a detailed outline of how we intend to build our app and what ideas we intend to implement for this hackathon. Throughout our Presentation, he carefully asked us.

Mr Awlvyn's next question was, "How detailed was it going to be for this project?" At first, I had a notion about how it might work and what we would do to tackle it. But when I answered him, I was lost in deep thought.

  1. How will you encourage people to contribute?

  2. Claire: Could we use the Language API to rewrite outdated content?

  3. Make a community forum accessible to the elderly?

Answering his questions was challenging, most likely due to the way he phrased them.

Technically speaking, I wish I had his level of intellect.

Some possible solutions I had considered using an AI chatbot. Is it theoretically possible to do so? Some gamifications that could be expanded on were discussed among our groupmates.

Mr Alwyn: How are you guys gonna drive the content and present it in the same way. He would be interested on how it will play out during hackathon.

First things first, we made some headway with the home page design. Next, we gave each other personal assignments based on our abilities.

I would handle the majority of the front-end work along with Vishwa and Carleton.

The language api was taken by Claire and Jeremy.

Since I was planning to set up the website and was doing a lot of research, this week's progress was a little slow at first.

Our First Progress!

Setting up github and doing some basic styling were among the tasks that Vishwa and I finished. During the process, a few styling problems came up.In addition, there were some design-related issues, such as instances of broken code.

I also had some great ideas when implementing, like what if would do like a table of contents? Hm?

This what what I implemented

Creating a Table of Contents was surprisingly easy, but I began to dislike it halfway through. It was too big, but it was also a waste of space, and it could have been placed better.

Our Progress

Aaron : Working into developing and ideate how we could bring our designs to life.

Vishwa : Working on front-end

Claire: Done with Language API

Jeremy: Research into other alternatives, sourcing databases

Carleton: Help out with our tutorials.

What I would do from the start?

Time flies so fast that we sometimes forget what we were making from the beginning.

Thus, to conclude my Title, A Tangent.
